South
Tyneside Churches' KEY Project is seeking to address
the issue of homelessness with young people while they
are still at school to try to prevent homelessness happening
in the first place.
We do this in a number of ways:
- By asking schools and their pupils to contribute
to our starter and emergency packs of basic foodstuffs
and toiletries which we distribute to homeless and
vulnerable young people. Collections for these usually
take place around Spring time, Harvest Festival and
before the end of term in the run-up to Christmas.
- By providing people who can go into schools to discuss
the problems of homelessness with years 10 and 11
pupils. The idea of this is to try to make pupils
aware of the difficulties and problems of leaving
home at a young age and help them to explore the issues
surrounding youth homelessness in creative and lively
ways.
- By providing useful resources such as our Homelessness
Sunday Resource Pack which can be adapted for use
with pupils. (insert link to resource pack).
- Speaking at school assemblies and youth groups.
- Providing information and links to other organizations.
