Homelessness can happen to anyone; problems such as debts, relationship breakdown, domestic violence and poverty can lead to someone having to leave their home.

Homelessness is not just about living on the streets.

You are legally homeless if;

  • You have nowhere to live
  • You are living in temporary accommodation such as bed and breakfast, hostel, hotel or squat
  • You are staying temporarily with relatives or friends who are unwilling or unable to accommodate you in the longer term
  • You cannot stay in your home because of violence or threats of violence
  • You have somewhere to live but it is not reasonable for you to stay there. This could be because of overcrowding or very poor conditions

You can also apply to the council if you are likely to become homeless within 28 days!
